The Honourable Mia Amor Mottley, S.C., M.P., is the 8th Prime Minister of Barbados and leader of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP).
Born in Barbados on October 1, 1965, Prime Minister Mottley's life has been one committed to highlighting and elevating the qualities of humanity, and developing a spirit of excellence for her country and for the Caribbean region.
Mottley was first sworn in as Prime Minister on May 26, 2018, after leading the BLP to a clean sweep of the General Elections.
On January 20, 2022, she retained Prime Ministership, as she led the BLP to a second consecutive clean sweep victory in a General Elections. Meanwhile, Mottley continues to serve as Member of Parliament for St Michael North East, a seat she has held for eight consecutive terms since first securing it in 1994.
An established Attorney-at-Law and Queen's Counsel who has been called to the Bar in England, Wales and Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley has had an active and successful political life in Barbados for over three decades, becoming Barbados' youngest ever Queen's Counsel, its first female Attorney General, the first female political leader of the BLP, the first female leader of the Opposition and the first female Prime Minister of Barbados, leading Barbados' transition to becoming a Parliamentary Republic in 2021.
Mottley's service of excellence has also been recognised internationally, being bestowed a number of honours including, the Order of Roraima of Guyana, the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya, being named one of TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People of 2022, and most recently, being awarded the United Nations Foundation Champion for Global Change Award.
Additionally, the Prime Minister has chaired a number of committees, and currently serves as:
- The Co-Chair of the One Health Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance
- Co-Chair of the Sustainable Development Goals Advocates group
- Lead Head of Government within CARICOM, bearing responsibility for the CARICOM Single Market and Economy
