The undisputed heart of the UK's financial and professional services offer, London is among the world's most preeminent financial centres, and the most global and outward looking. It is home to almost half of the 1,000 largest financial, professional and business-based service firms in the UK. It is the largest centre internationally for a number of cross border activities including bank lending, foreign exchange trading, and OTC derivatives. The city's diverse and internationally connected workforce is one of the most highly skilled in Europe across all sectors, with 85% of the City of London’s workforce employed in high skilled roles. 

£3.4bn Foreign direct investment in financial services between 2019-23

The City of London is one of the world's most established centres, and there are specialist clusters of services throughout the whole of the capital, including Canary Wharf and Mayfair, and financial and professional services expertise across every sector is available. A global fintech ‘super hub’, approximately two-thirds of UK fintechs are headquartered in London, with a strong footing across fintech subsectors and with key specialisms in banking, payments and Wealthtech. The capital is key to providing financial services to the world, exporting over £87bn in financial and professional services to international markets. A magnet for inward investment in the sector, 2019-23 saw £3.4bn invested in 700 projects through foreign direct investment.
